The Messenger: The Discipline of Reset

The Discipline of Reset

September 2023

Did You Know?

Feeling spiritually, physically, emotional tired, burnt-out, exhausted, does not mean that you’ve done anything wrong spiritually; it is not a sign that you’re out-of-touch with God. It may simply mean that you are tired and need a reset.
And, Jesus LOVES when we come to Him Seeking, Knocking, Asking for a reset.

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” – Jesus

I am so technologically challenged that I have to keep an I.T. guy on retainer for assistance. Whenever my phone or computer slows down or freezes up, it's great to have someone to call for help.

Whenever I call, his first question is always, "Have you reset your system?" This requires me to unplug or turn off my device. It's amazing how many times this fixes the problem.

There will be times in our lives, especially if we have to be "on" all the time, that we might slow down and freeze up. It may be time to unplug and practice the discipline of reset. Jesus invites all who are weary and burdened to come to Him for rest (refresh/reset) Matthew 11:28-30.

You may find this prayer by Jennifer Waddle helpful if you need to reset:

"Lord, I long for those moments early in my faith when I felt your closeness, your joy, your energy, and zest for life. I confess that the daily grind has ground down my passion for you. I confess that I allow the cares of the world to choke out the joy of the gospel. Lord, turn my heart toward you again. Fix my eyes on you: fix my heart on you. Help me have a reset in my faith and in my life, starting today. renew my heart, renew my life for you and your ways. Help my see the daily routines of life as moments to gracefully submit to your will. Thank you for being the Lord of my life every day. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
