May Worship Devotional by Jenn Young

WE CAN find freedom when we worship THROUGH the battles of life!

Have you been betrayed? HIS love endures forever. Are you overwhelmed by the weight of your sin? HIS Grace abounds. Do you wonder why all the suffering? HIS faithfulness remains. Do you struggle with wavering faith? HE is worthy of all praise. HIS Word is true.

David trusted the Lord to take victory over the giant in his life. He declared the battles belongs to the Lord. The Lord told King Jehoshaphat, “Do not be afraid of discouraged because of the great battle before you, for it’s not your but God’s.” So he appointed worshippers to go out before the army and say, “Give thanks to the Lord for His love endures forever.”

So we, like Moses in the battle to save Israel, lift our hands to the Lord who fights for us. We fight in the way of Aaron and Her, holding up our weary brothers’ and sisters’ hands for them. Those Nights of Worship we have; that’s the body of Christ, Worship Warriors coming together to acknowledge the Lord, surrender our efforts and lift Him up to fight for us.

If we shift our perspective from our troubles and trials to Christ’s victory and release the battle to Him to fight for us, we open ourselves to greater capacity to trust in Him and grow our faith. Without the weight of our burdens, we then become free to lift our hands to Him in worship. And as we worship Him, we find rest, preace, and VICTORY.

June/July/Aug Schedule & OPT-OUT

Next week I will be writing the Media Ministry Schedule for June, July & August.

IF YOU PLAN TIME OFF…PLEASE USE THE OPT-OUT FORM. I still have people telling me, texting me, or leaving on my voicemail when they will be off. I WILL NOT REMEMBER, especially if you come up and tell me. This is what the OPT-OUT form is for. Please just assume that that if you do not write it on the form, it will most likely not get scheduled. This way we are all on the same page. Currently the OPT-OUT form goes through 2026. If you know you have a vacation or need time off, it’s best to get it on there as soon as possible.

When I write the schedule, I write 3 months at a time. It is always best to have your OPT-OUT needs before I print the finalized schedules. Being 3 months at a time, I do expect that there will be some changes, but I would like to have each month securely fixed by the first of each month.

I’ll also make sure everyone has each other’s phone numbers for each ministry team. If you need to take time off, before calling Pastor Sam, call your team members and see if you can get someone to cover or switch. Then let me know.

Also, if you know you are not going to be able to serve Sunday morning, let me know ASAP, don’t wait till late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Every position of worship is an important part of the worship service. We’re a team, so please don’t wait to the last minute to let me know.

Thanks so much!

-Sam

Special NOTES

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:
JULY FINAL FRIDAY
July 31st: N.O.W. in the PARK

First of all: We will be canceling N.O.W. in JUNE, because that Friday will be the final night and celebration night for VBS.

JULY we will be taking advantage of the summer weather and having open worship at the park. We just planned this so more info will follow.

  • I’ll get with everyone who will be singing and playing.
  • We’ll talk about what it will look like.
  • I’ll connect with Jeff for the best way to set up speakers, mics, and sound plans.
  • We’ll print off all the worship music in a handout similar to our church handout.

Issues and Opportunities: Sunday Recap

This Update Is From Last Sunday Notes

This Sunday there were a few issues and opportunities for each of us in the Media Ministry. Please look over your area and take note of anything that applies to you. Every issue we experience is an opportunity to get better in our area of worship. Every issues is an opportunity to grow closer as a team and stronger as a ministry team.

  • SOUND: Pastor Joe’s Mic
    • Problem: Pastor Joe’s mic, during the transition, was squealing.
    • Fix 1: I logged on to the Yamaha from my ipad and noticed that the stage had not been muted yet. Make sure–when Pastor Joe comes up at the end of that last worship song–to turn off the stage vocals and any instruments not playing.
    • Fix 2: The next few weeks, let’s make sure to get a sound check with Pastor Joe before the services. That way we get a handle on his mic before the service.
    • Fix 3: EQ. I will get with you Jenn, Chris, Matthew, Taylor — to see when would be the best time to do an EQ – hands on training. I think Wednesday evenings would be the best since most of you are here already…but the next 2 Wednesdays are pretty packed. Maybe a different day will work, or I may need to split up the groups.
  • SLIDES: Late Slides
    • Sunday, 1st service there was an issue with the slides a few times.
      • Fix 1: Make sure to be following along with Pastor Joe, and keeping your attention on the current slide.
      • Fix 2: If you are using the mouse to click the next slide...instead use the arrow on the keyboard. This will keep you from accidentally dragging and moving the slide instead of just clicking forward.
      • IF the slides FREEZE and you cannot get it to move forward, quickly quit ProPresenter and restart the MAC. (I had to do this a few Sundays ago during announcements).
      • ANY OTHER QUESTIONS about ProPresentor ask Jeff Robinson. He has much more knowledge than I do, and he is the Media Presentation Team Lead. He probably has better Fix solutions than I do, feel free to go to him for help or advise.
  • STREAMING: Sunday Life Stream
    • This last Sunday the Live Stream was never started.
    • Fix: Honestly, I think we just forgot. It happens. If there was another issue let me know, but luckily I think we just forgot. Tim made a great check-list. I’ll print it off and laminate it. I have one for each Media area.
  • LIGHTS: Lights, Software, New Engine, Crushed Line
    • Issue 1: The Lights have been turning off during the service.
    • Fix: We updated the Lighting Control Box and Software. I bought an new box and Tim is setting it up this week.
    • Issue 2: Looks like one of the lights were not working because the cord got crushed by the LOVE sign.
    • Fix: Tim is switching it out.
    • Fix: This is obviously not you fault. I will talk to Brad, Pastor Joe…and make sure that everyone knows that when we move the sign for baptism, it cannot be put on top of the cords. We think the cord getting crushed caused a short in the wires.

Sound Ministry: Step-By-Step Order of Service Check List

Once the new speakers are set, this will update, but until then I want to make sure everyone is on the same page with the Order of Service

  1. Turn Yamaha ON: FIRST at the sound booth, SECOND on the 2 Tio boxes on stage, THIRD the back Amp
  2. Turn stage speakers ON: The switch in on the back of each speaker.
  3. On the Yamaha, sign into the GUEST account. Should already be signed in.

  9. Have whoever is running slides to turn worship music on to make sure computer sound is working.
  1. Worship Practice:
    • Turn ON all vocal mics & instruments EXCEPT FOR guitars and bass…wait until they are plugged in (to avoid loud pop).
    • During worship practice: Sound Check
    • After worship practice is over turn pre-service worship music on from the MAC.
  2. Worship Sound Check
    • After volumes are set (a) sit in the overflow room to make sure speakers are working
    • Walk through the main sanctuary rows to listen for sound issues you may not be able to hear in the sound booth.
  3. Pastor Joe Lapel Sound Check

  4. When he prays, turn the rest of the stage off: Piano and guitar.
  1. Turn on Lapel #2 and the Handheld (if two people are doing announcements)
  2. Turn Pastor’s mic off (so there’s no feedback while he sits on the front row)
  3. When they are finished giving announcements turn their mics off and turn Pastor Joe’s make on.
  1. Check again to make sure all mics are off but Pastor Joe’s (or guest special speaker’s).
  2. When the Sermon is finished, STOP recording.
  1. When Pastor Joe prays before communion the worship team will head to the stage. Wait until they all get in place and are ready to sing before turning their mics on.  (NOTE: 1st Service, Frank and Paul will hold their mics. Wait until they have removed them from their stands before you turn them on. 2nd Service Megan, April and sometimes Alicia do the same.)
  2. Pastor Joe will mute his mic when the worship team comes up. Leave his mic on.
  3. When team is finished singing and Pastor Joe beings to speak, turn all singers mics off.
  1. If the worship team is playing during prayer time make sure the volume is soft.
  2. When the worship team or piano player is finished playing, TURN Altar Time worship to play softly in the background.
  1. Some people may still be at the altar when 2nd service worship team comes in and sets up, switch the Yamaha from 1st Service to 2nd Service.
  2. Make sure to keep guitars and bass OFF until they are plugged in, to keep from making loud pop.
  3. Check Pastor Joe’s lapel battery. Switch out batteries if it’s below half.
  4. FOLLOW the CHECKLIST ABOVE , Starting with WORSHIP.
  1. Keep Altar time worship playing as long as anyone is being prayed for.
  2. Turn the stage speaker off.
  3. Turn off Sound System FIRST in the room behind Prayer Room, SECOND turn off the 2 Tios on stage, Third Sound Booth. (This is the opposite of what you do when turning it on. If you do it backwards you get a loud pop.)
  4. Make sure the music is off, and check that the Slide Ministry turned the Screens off.
