SINGERS & SOUND: OPPORTUNITY FOR EXCELLENCE TOGETHER

  • SINGERS: During Worship practice, the sound guy is adjusting your volume, if you are not keeping you mouth close to the mic (3-5 inches is ideal) you will not get the best sound. If you hold the mic down at your chest during practice, hopefully the sound person will remind you to pull it up. If you hold it at your chest during the worship service, the sound person is instructed not to turn your volume up (or mute you volume to avoid humming) , because it will cause a screech or droning hum. Please keep you mics at your mouth. I know, it’s the age old struggle…singers have their habits and opinion, and sound guys want to hear everything…to a fault. FCC Worship team WILL remedy this together. Singers: Practice like you are going to do it live; Sound: Get their volume set and then give them freedom to step up and away during practice.
  • SOUND MINISTRY: You want to make sure that you are at the sound board early enough to get the singers and musicians set up and then–as they are doing worship–you want to go sit at the front row, middle row, back rows and get a volume that works. Once the service starts you can only hear the sound from the area of the sound booth…if you turn the volume up to where it is ‘good’ loud for you, you are blowing the front row away. After you walk through the front of house and set the volume, then go into the back room and make sure sound is good back there too.

BIG SHOUT OUT: THANK YOU

This was a crazy Sunday, we had a few people out for sickness and seasonal work shifts. There was a lot of switching around at the last moment…and you guys were awesome. They say “Team work makes the Dream work”, and it does. I want to give a big Thank You SHOUT OUT to: Jenn and Nicolas Young, to Matthew Mullins and Jeff Robertson. Thank you all for jumping in at the last minute and crushing it, like a boss. I really appreciate you.

Singers & Musicians: Thanks for clearing the stage after worship. It was noticeable. Watching the sermon online, we noticed that the stage was not cluttered and messing looking with cords, mic and guitar stands.  Great job. I know it is not the worship team’s main priority, so I appreciate everyone being team player. It looked so much better online.

    • Sound for Worship was great
    • Sound for Transition was great!
    • Sound for Sermon was great! – Special Thanks to Matthew
    • Slides for Worship were great! – Special Thanks to Jeff
    • Slides for Sermon was great!
  • 2nd SERVICE ISSUES:
    • SOUND: There are a couple people who came to me to complain about the singers not being loud enough, in the same service others complain about them being too loud. This has happened on a couple occasions, usually the same people. I always suggest to them to sit closer or further away depending on their volume preference. I want to reiterate this: When someone comes up and tells the sound person to turn up specific people, it does not mean that request will happen. It is up to the sound person to make these decisions based on what they know about the front of sanctuary sound, the middle, and back of sanctuary sound.
      • EXAMPLE: If Matthew (who was running 2nd service sound) would have turned anyone up for those sitting in the middle or back, it would have been way too loud in the first 2-3 rows. If he would have turned it down for me (sitting at the second row) it would have been too low for those in the middle and back rows.
        • MAIN SOLUTION: Tim is talking to Kent Audio today (Tuesday at 3:30pm) The main speakers on the ceiling is the fix. The sound WILL NOT be at a perfect level for everyone until that is fixed.
        • The Other Solutions I already mentioned in ‘SINGER and SOUND: OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXCELLENCE TOGETHER‘ and although the main speakers are the main issue with sanctuary volume, making a point to work on these areas between Singer: mouth-to-mic placement, and Sound: active sound adjustment (we DO NOT do the ‘set-it-and-forget-it’ sound approach, especially during worship…we do the ‘active’ sound approach.
