Bearing Burdens---

Main Scripture: Galatians 6:1-2

“Brothers and sisters, even if a person is caught in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual are to restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourselves, so that you are not tempted as well (2) Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfilling the law of Christ..”

Let’s look at this word “Burden”. In this verses the GREEK word used for burden is “bere”. which means “A heavy weight or a crushing load that pushes down”

Have you even experienced a burden like this? Have you ever felt that you were being pushed down, or crushed under a heavy load?

The Scripture is clear here, that, as the body of Christ we are called to help carry, or bare, one another’s burdens. Isn’t it true that we can do TOGETHER what we could never do alone?

Main Points

3 Responses to Burdens.

01

Point One: Sharing The Burden : The Burden that God doesn't intend you to carry alone

Galatians 5:13-15: What is the context of this scripture concerning burden? Sin. It is talking about those who are caught, overcome, overtaken by sin.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: Two are better than one, and what about 3?

Numbers 11:14,16-17: God does not intend us to carry the burden alone.

Point Two: Shouldering the Burden / Personal responsibility - The burden that is for you to bare and no one else.

2 Thessalonians 3:10: If there is an unwillingness to work, no one else needs to carry your burden. God has a problem with idleness.

Romans 14:11-12: Each of us will give a personal account to God someday. There are some things that no one can do for you, like salvation. Each of us will take the stand before God and give account for our own lives.

1 Peter 4:10: When God gives you a gift, it is your personally responsibility to be a good steward of that give He has given you.

2 Timothy 2:15: We each have a personal responsibility to study the word. No one can study the word for you.

Point Three: Shedding the Burden: The Burden that we are to cast on God. It takes Surrender and Trust

1 Peter 5:5-7: Cast your burdens on HIM for HE cares for you! 1 Peter 5:8-9 goes further to tell us why? It is spiritual warfare.

Matthew 11:28-30: It takes trust to come to Jesus. But if we will, we will find rest for our souls.

Psalms 55:22: Give your Burdens to God and HE WILL take care of you.

Psalms 23: This whole chapter speaks to the Shepherding heart of God. Sheep will not lie down unless they are free from 4 things:

  • Free from hunger
  • Free from fear
  • Free from bugs
  • Free from conflict

Only when the sheep are free from these things will they lie down. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He provides these things for us. Do you trust Him? Do you trust Him enough to cast all your cares on Him? Do you trust Him enough to surrender your control of everything to Him?

If you have a burden that you need to share, because you cannot carry it alone…

If you have a responsibility that you need to focus on and take care of…

If you need to stop being an enabler, and carrying someone’s responsibility, not helping them at all, but it is just so hard…

If you have a burden that you need to cast on Jesus...worries, anxieties, fears…that you, for whatever reason have not given it to God…
